Approved the following items on the Consent Calendar:

5) Minutes of the meeting of the CC held March 28^th.

6) Set a public hearing for April 25 at 7:00 p.m. on a redevelopment liquor license for Jib-Bob, LLC.

7) Set a public hearing for April 25 at 7:00 p.m. to obtain public input on the CDBG Water Related Infrastructure Program.

8) Received proposed 2023-2028 CIP and set a public hearing for May 23 at 7:00 p.m. on same.

9) Amendment to the Consumers Energy Demand Response Agreement for continuation in the program, and authorized the Mayor to sign the Agreement.

City Offering No Fee Brush Chipping – No longer taking reservations (4/25/22 at 10 a.m.)

UPDATE: 4/25/2022 at 10 a.m.: All 150 slots have been filled.

The City is offering 150 households, within the City limits, up to 30 minutes of no fee brush chipping during the week of May 9, 2022. Brush chipping will be completed at curbside only, no alleys. Reservations will be accepted beginning April 25 at 8:00 a.m. until April 29 at 4:30 p.m. Reservations can be made online, or by calling the Division of Public Works, 989-779-5401.

City Awarded Financial Certificate of Achievement for 34th Year

For the 34^th year in a row, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded Mt. Pleasant the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. GFOA established this recognition program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go above the minimum requirements of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The award acknowledges municipalities that clearly communicate its financial story while motivating potential users and user groups to read the Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAnFR).

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The CAnFR was prepared by the city’s dedicated Finance Division staff. Budget preparations that led to this award were spearheaded by Mary Ann Kornexl, Director of Finance and Chris Saladine, Assistant Director of Finance.

City Receives Grant and High Achiever Bonus Funds for Home Exterior Improvements

In 2021, the city had $100,000 available for home exterior improvement projects. Of this sum, $60,000 was provided by the city and $30,000 was funded by a Michigan State Housing Development (MSHDA) grant. Due to the city’s previous success with this program, a ‘high achiever’ bonus of $10,000 was also awarded by MSHDA so additional projects could be completed.

Since the program’s inception in 2020, ten household improvement projects have been completed. Six in the city’s west side neighborhood bordered by the Chippewa River, Pickard Street, High Street/M-20 and the western city limits, and four in other areas of the city. An additional 2-3 projects are expected to be added due to the high-achiever bonus. Finished projects include roof repairs, porch and deck replacements, as well as window and door installations.
