5 Reasons Why Mount Pleasant is a Great College Town

  1. The Location

Located right in the center of the mitten, the City of Mount Pleasant appeals to students from every corner of the state. Mt. P is just an hour away from Lansing, an hour and a half from Grand Rapids, and two and a half hours from Detroit. The quick drive up to CMU is easy, but the nearly “Up North” vibe of Mount Pleasant makes it feel like a world away.

  1. The Opportunity

Mount Pleasant hosts an array of businesses and restaurants. In the last few years, multiple new restaurants have opened on Mission Street. Many of these places employ students part time while they go to school. CMU students have the opportunity to intern, work and develop by getting involved during their time at school.

  1. The Parks

Mount Pleasant is home to parks, trails, and a river. You can spend the day hanging out at Island Park, walking one of the many trails or kayaking down the Chip River. Whether it’s summer or winter, there are always things to see and do in the City’s beautiful parks.

  1. The Downtown

Close to campus, Main Street offers a wide variety of restaurants and quaint local businesses. Shopping, pottery painting and great homemade food are all found downtown Mount Pleasant. Take a study break before finals week and head to the annual Christmas Celebration downtown– it proves to be a fun event for residents of all ages!

  1. The Entertainment

With multiple golf courses, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, a movie theater and a summer concert series, there is always something to do in Mount Pleasant. When you’re not busy with homework, head out for a game of golf on a sunny day or spend a rainy day catching a new movie. Home to Soaring Eagle, Mount Pleasant has become a tourist destination for many looking for a short getaway or big-name concert.
