Annual Downtown Mt. Pleasant Open House scheduled for Sept. 29-30

Residents and visitors are invited to the third annual Fall Open House downtown Mt. Pleasant for a weekend full of festivities! On Sept. 29 and 30, several downtown businesses will offer customers samples, specials and great coupons for future deals from local retailers, restaurants and eateries.

The following businesses will have a unique offering during the Fall Open House: Art Reach of Mid Michigan, GreenTree Co-op, Trillium, Pure Vitality, Basketree, Le Fleur Boutique, Headliners Salon, Pleasant City Coffee, Motorless Motion, Redbloom Yoga, and Gray’s Furniture & Accessories. ‘Super Soaker Festivus’ to take place tonight at Island Park

Untitled design (12).pngThe “Super Soaker Festivus” community water gun fight will take place tonight at Island Park. The event will officially start at 6:30 p.m., but participants may arrive beginning at 6 p.m.

Bring water blasters, soakers and cannons to this family-fun event! Large buckets of water will be available for refueling. Plus, four lucky participants will win a Super Aqua Blaster Soaker 1500!

Presented by Downtown Mt. Pleasant, Isabella Community Credit Union and WCFX, the “Super Soaker Festivus” is the final event of the City’s Thrilling Thursdays series.

“Thrilling Thursdays” return to downtown Mt. Pleasant

Beginning June 15, make downtown your destination every Thursday evening for activities designed to take you and your family back in time when summer was all about fun! Each of these “Thrilling Thursdays” will begin at 6 p.m. at Town Center, with the exception of the Supersoaker Festivus, which will be held at Island Park.

The 2017 “Thrilling Thursdays” include:

Nominations for Historic Preservation Improvement Awards due March 31

downtowndestination-logo1The City of Mt. Pleasant’s Historic District Commission (HDC) is currently seeking nominations for the 2017 Historic Preservation Improvement Awards.

The awards are presented each year to honor exterior improvements of residential and commercial properties in the City of Mt. Pleasant in four areas – Preservation, Restoration, New Construction or Downtown Historic District Choice. Nominated properties must be at least 25 years old, and the improvements must have been completed between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016.

The HDC will evaluate applications that best reflect the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Winners will be announced in May as part of National Historic Preservation month.

Nominations are due by 4:30 p.m. on March 31, 2017. Nomination forms can be found on the City’s website at
