Parking Lot #3 Saturday Closures – Farmers’ Market

Beginning June 18 – October 8, 2022 parking lot #3, located at the NW corner of Main and Broadway will be closed on Saturday’s for the weekly Farmers’ Market. Overnight permit holders are requested to park in lots #2, #4 or #5 on Friday nights during this time. Cars left in parking lot #3 will be towed, at no cost to the vehicle owner, to parking lot #10, located at the NW corner of Broadway and Mosher.

The Farmers’ Market runs from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Downtown Parking Lot Closures

Several downtown parking lots will be closed at 6 a.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2021 for restriping. At this time, the lots are scheduled to be open on Monday, September 20, 2021.

Please make sure your vehicle is removed before 6 a.m. on September 19.

Home Builders Car Show slated for July 10, 2021; road and parking lot closures

A City parking lot and several streets will be closed to accommodate the Home Builders Association of Central Michigan Car Show. Closures will take place on Saturday, July 10, 2021 between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Cars left in Parking Lot #3 and on the streets specified below will be towed, starting at 6 a.m. on July 10, to the City Hall parking lot, (320 W. Broadway Street.)

PARKING LOT CLOSURE:

  • Lot #3 (Town Center) 

STREET CLOSURES:

  • Broadway from Mosher to Lansing
  • Main from Mosher to Illinois (Michigan will remain open to through traffic.)
  • Court from Broadway to Mosher (There will still be access to parking lot #2.)  
  • University from Michigan to Broadway
  • Franklin from Michigan to Mosher

Mosher and Michigan will remain open to move traffic traveling east and west. Washington will remain open for north and southbound traffic.

Mt. PLeasANt 2050 – City of Mt. Pleasant begins work on a new Master Plan

Mt. Pleasant, MI – The City of Mt. Pleasant is preparing a new Master Plan, a document which will chart the direction of the City’s development for the next 30 years.

Master plans are critical policy documents. They are the primary way for the community to answer the following questions:

  • What do we want our community to look like in 2050?
  • How do we get there?
  • How can we ensure our community is resilient by avoiding or mitigating risks or threats that we may face?

The new City Master Plan will also include an updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan as well as a subarea plan focused on Mission Street and Pickard Avenue (east of Mission). The plan will specifically address land use, transportation, housing, downtown, economic development, and public safety.

Public Input Needed
Public input is imperative during this planning process and will determine the community’s vision as well as help set specific goals, objectives and policies. The public is invited to participate in a series of events scheduled from April 8-11, 2019.  All events will be held at City Hall, 320 W. Broadway Street, unless otherwise noted.

City of Mt. Pleasant Master Planning History
Major projects and policy changes often result from a master planning process. For instance, the 1965 Master Plan led to the extension of Mosher Street; the development of “Town Center”; and the creation of a new 1971 zoning ordinance. The 1987 Master Plan led to significant investments in park accessibility for individuals with disabilities; facility investments to improve the quality of drinking water; and extensions of Bellows and Preston Streets.

The City adopted its first Master Plan in 1946 with subsequent plans being adopted in 1965, 1987 and 2006. The City’s current Master Plan was an update adopted in 2014. Click here to view our past and current Master Plans. All Michigan cities are required to adopt master plans in accordance with Public Act 33 of 2008.

Back to the Bricks® car show stops downtown Mt. Pleasant June 8

The Back to the Bricks® car show will be making its first stop of the season in downtown Mt. Pleasant on Friday, June 8, as part of its “Mighty Mac and Back” promo tour. From 5 to 8:30 p.m., classic car owners and admirers can enjoy more than 270 automobiles on display along the streets of downtown.

Back to the Bricks® produces family-friendly automotive events that reflect Flint’s automotive heritage. The six-day tour is designed to promote all of the Back to the Bricks® events while showcasing each participating city’s unique features and foster economic development.

The following streets will be closed from 2 to 8:30 p.m. on June 8:

  • Broadway between Lansing and Washington
  • Main between Illinois and Mosher
  • University between Mosher and Michigan
  • Court between Broadway and Mosher
  • Franklin between Mosher and Michigan

The tour will leave from Davison with overnight stops in Mt. Pleasant, Gaylord, Petoskey, St. Ignace, and East Tawas, culminating with an “End of the Road” Luncheon at the Birch Run Speedway & Event Center.

Nov. 11 is “Ladies’ Night Out” downtown Mt. Pleasant

Saturday, Nov. 11 is the 13th annual Ladies’ Night Out downtown Mt. Pleasant. This year’s event will feature fantastic shopping opportunities and giveaways for women while benefiting two local women’s organizations – the Women’s Initiative and the Women’s Aid Service.

The event begins at 4 p.m. at the Broadway Theatre downtown. With a $5 donation at the door, ladies will enter the theatre for an exciting raffle for fun and tasty prizes provided by many local businesses. Once the giveaways are gone, ladies can visit participating downtown businesses to take part in the countless in-store giveaways, promotions and specials.

A number of area businesses, including Herbs Etc. and Mt. Pleasant Hot Yoga, are also offering deals and discounts known as “Early Girl Specials” throughout the entire day.

Over the last 13 years, the Ladies’ Night Out event has raised more than $22,800 for the Women’s Initiative and the Women’s Aid Service.

The Women’s Initiative Fund, initiated by the Mt. Pleasant Community Foundation, provides for the needs of women and girls in Isabella County by granting funds to local organizations that combat the issues more commonly faced by women, including single parenting, abuse, eating disorders and more. The Women’s Aid Service provides emergency shelter and crisis intervention for domestic violence victims, as well as counseling services and support groups for victims of violence. Pumpkin Promenade scheduled for Oct. 31 downtown Mt. Pleasant

The Mt. Pleasant community and surrounding areas are invited to celebrate Halloween downtown Mt. Pleasant at the sixth annual Pumpkin Promenade!

The Pumpkin Promenade will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. Children age 12 and under can trick-or-treat at participating businesses and visit Town Center for a free donut hole from Robaire’s Bakery. Participating businesses will have signs displayed in their windows indicating they are part of the event.

Please note, citywide trick-or-treating is Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Outdoor film series scheduled for Saturdays in August

Over the weekend, Mt. Pleasant area families brought chairs, blankets and snacks, and settled in on the lawn outside of City Hall for the showing of “Zootopia,” the first film in this year’s Movies by Moonlight event series.

Movies by Moonlight will continue on Saturdays in August outside of City Hall (320 W. Broadway). All showings begin at 8:30 p.m. / dusk.

Nominations for Historic Preservation Improvement Awards due March 31

downtowndestination-logo1The City of Mt. Pleasant’s Historic District Commission (HDC) is currently seeking nominations for the 2017 Historic Preservation Improvement Awards.

The awards are presented each year to honor exterior improvements of residential and commercial properties in the City of Mt. Pleasant in four areas – Preservation, Restoration, New Construction or Downtown Historic District Choice. Nominated properties must be at least 25 years old, and the improvements must have been completed between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016.

The HDC will evaluate applications that best reflect the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Winners will be announced in May as part of National Historic Preservation month.

Nominations are due by 4:30 p.m. on March 31, 2017. Nomination forms can be found on the City’s website at http://www.mt-pleasant.org/boards_and_commissions/HDC.asp.
