Mission Street Conceptual Design Survey – Public Input Requested

Earlier this year, the City of Mt. Pleasant contracted with Progressive Companies to lead the development of an improvement plan for Mission Street. In collaboration with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and with funding from the State of Michigan Redevelopment Ready Communities program, the city convened a local steering committee and solicited public input through in-person events and an online survey.

Information received from these outreach efforts helped formulate design concepts which were presented to the community on September 26 through appearances at the Farmers’ Market, CMU’s campus, and an Open House at City Hall.

For those community members who were unable to attend these events, a survey has been developed to capture your insight. Visit https://s.alchemer.com/s3/eb01215e5300. Survey deadline is October 31, 2024. Please do not complete the survey if you have already shared your feedback at the September 26 events.

– Project Steering Committee Meeting Open to the Public

The City of Mt. Pleasant has contracted with Progressive Companies, based in Grand Rapids, to lead development of an improvement plan for Mission Street. Addressing traffic congestion, pedestrian and bicycle safety, universal accessibility and enhancing access to businesses along Mission Street have been identified as priorities in city plans and strategies going back more than 20 years.

The city is leading this effort, in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and with funding from the State of Michigan Redevelopment Ready Communities program. Mt. Pleasant City Manager Aaron Desentz is optimistic about the effort, “While the city has been a part of multiple efforts to enhance Mission Street in the past, this represents the first time the city is leading the charge to develop truly detailed designs and plans with an emphasis on meeting the needs of the entire community.” Jack Hofweber, the Mt Pleasant Transportation Service Center Manager for MDOT highlighted the importance of developing a plan for Mission Street now, which is under the State’s jurisdiction, “With a detailed plan that has community buy-in, MDOT will be better equipped to seek funding opportunities and plan for a future reconstruction of the corridor.”

The city is convening a steering committee to review potential designs and plans for Mission Street. The group is composed of local business owners, elected, and appointed officials, representatives from Central Michigan University, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Disability Network of Mid-Michigan, the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce, the Mt. Pleasant Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. The planning process will conclude with a formal update to the city’s 2020 Master Plan.

To launch this effort, the city is releasing a community survey. Just follow this link:

[https://tinyurl.com/mstreetmp] or scan the QR Code below to complete it. Paper copies of the survey will be available at City Hall (320 W. Broadway Street) and information about it will be posted throughout the community. Survey deadline is May 31, 2024. There will be three $50 gift certificates from businesses located along Mission Street that will be drawn from the list of those who complete the survey and share their email address. The first meeting of the project steering committee is April 22nd at 12:30 p.m. in City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

Christmas Celebration Survey

It is never too early to talk about the holidays. The Recreation Department would like to get your input on the annual Christmas Celebration held downtown, during the first week in December. What do you enjoy about the event? What would you like to see or do at the event?

Isabella County Hazard Mitigation Planning Effort Seeks Public Input

Isabella County has experienced several local emergencies and disasters in recent years including floods and the COVID-19 pandemic. Every five years, the County updates its Hazard Mitigation Plan to identify the greatest threats and hazards facing our community, and determines how we can best mitigate the impacts.

Hazard Mitigation is any effort to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to human life and property. Although floods and other events cannot be prevented from occurring, long-term solutions can be implemented to reduce devastating impacts on residents, families, homes, infrastructure, and natural resources.

The goal of a Hazard Mitigation Plan is to save lives, property, and natural resources by reducing the community’s vulnerability to emergency disasters. Residents and other community stakeholders are invited to engage in this vital planning process by completing a brief survey. Results will inform planners what specific hazards cause the most concern, and ultimately identify community assets to protect.

The survey, open to all individuals who live, work and play in Isabella County, will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and is available at https://tinyurl.com/IsabellaHMP . Survey deadline is March 28, 2022.

Community asked to provide feedback on City communication

The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking community input through an online survey to measure the effectiveness of its current methods of communication with the public. Responses to the survey questions will help the City improve its efforts to ensure citizens are informed and involved.

“As technology and social media evolve, it is important we continuously evaluate how well our communication strategies are working,” said City Manager Nancy Ridley. “This feedback will help us determine the best ways to reach as many of our residents and property owners as possible,” said City Manager Nancy Ridley.

A link to the survey is available here. Hard copies of the survey can be found at the reception counters of City Hall (320 W. Broadway), the Division of Public Safety (804 E. High Street), and the Division of Public Works (1303 N. Franklin Street).

The survey closes July 1.
