The City Commission Meeting will be held in person in the City Chambers/City Hall (320 W. Broadway Street) with virtual attendance options as well. Non-voting participants may view the meeting live on the City’s YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/user/MtPleasantMi/, on Spectrum Charter channel 188 or via Zoom.

If a virtual option becomes unavailable due to technical difficulties, the meeting will continue as scheduled. Residents who would like to provide a comment during the appropriate time are welcome to come to the meeting at City Hall or email their statement to comment@mt-pleasant.org.

Summary of Minutes of the regular meeting of the City Commission held Monday, February 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Commission Room, 320 W. Broadway St., Mt. Pleasant, Michigan with virtual options.

Approved the Agenda as presented.

Received petitions and communications.

Approved the following items on the Consent Calendar:

6) Minutes of the regular meeting of the City Commission held January 27, 2025.

7) Minutes of the closed session of the City Commission held January 27, 2025.

8) Bid of H&H Concrete of Clare, MI for 2025 Sidewalk Replacement Project and a budget amendment.

9) Payrolls and Warrants.

Approved a budget amendment for fund balance allocation for Retaining Wall, Parking Lot 4, and Parking Lot 5 projects.

Approved bid of McGuirk Sand & Gravel of Mt. Pleasant, MI for Parking Lots 4 & 5 Reconstruction Project.

Conducted a Work Session discussion on City Manager review process.

Snow Emergencies and Downtown Overnight Parking Information

If a snow emergency is declared by City staff, on-street parking will NOT be permitted.

During a snow emergency, failure to remove vehicles from the street will result in a ticket. Towing may be utilized if ticketing has proven ineffective and/or the vehicles parked on the street cause a delay in snow removal.

Notice of when a snow emergency is declared, and later lifted, will be provided through the city’s social media channels, website www.mt-pleasant.org, blog https://mpcityblog.com/, community information phone line (989-779-5320), local media notification, and an email alert.

Parking ordinance reminders:

  • Downtown Overnight Parking Permit Holders: Will be informed via email or text on when and where you need to move your vehicle.
  • Overnight street parking is allowed throughout the City of Mt. Pleasant year-round, except for the Downtown area.
  • Downtown street parking is prohibited from 4 – 6 a.m. year-round.
  • When a snow emergency is declared, all cars must be removed from the street.

Home Builders Car Show Slated for July 9, 2022

A City parking lot and several streets will be closed to accommodate the Home Builders Association of Central Michigan Car Show. Closures will take place on Saturday, July 9, 2022 between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Cars left in Parking Lot #3 and on the streets specified below, will be towed starting at 6 a.m. on July 9, to the City Hall parking lot, (320 W. Broadway Street.)

PARKING LOT CLOSURE:

  • Lot #3 (Town Center) 

STREET CLOSURES:

  • Broadway from Mosher to Lansing
  • Main from Mosher to Illinois (Michigan will remain open to through traffic.)
  • Court from Broadway to Mosher (There will still be access to parking lot #2.)  
  • University from Michigan to Broadway
  • Franklin from Michigan to Mosher

Mosher and Michigan will remain open to move traffic traveling east and west. Washington will remain open for north and southbound traffic.

Parking Lot #3 Saturday Closures – Farmers’ Market

Beginning June 18 – October 8, 2022 parking lot #3, located at the NW corner of Main and Broadway will be closed on Saturday’s for the weekly Farmers’ Market. Overnight permit holders are requested to park in lots #2, #4 or #5 on Friday nights during this time. Cars left in parking lot #3 will be towed, at no cost to the vehicle owner, to parking lot #10, located at the NW corner of Broadway and Mosher.

The Farmers’ Market runs from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

3) Received proposed ordinance to amend Section 154.410.B.4 of the Mt. Pleasant Zoning Ordinances to update special use permit conditions and requirements for two-family dwellings and set a public hearing for August 9, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. on the same.

4) Received proposed ordinance to amend Section 154.410.B.4 of the Mt. Pleasant Zoning Ordinances to update special use permit conditions and requirements for accessory dwelling units and set a public hearing for August 9, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. on the same.

Passed, ordained and ordered published Ordinance 1069, an Ordinance to amend Chapter GENERAL PROVISIONS, §10.05 DEFINITIONS and Chapter 91: ANIMALS of the Mt. Pleasant City Code of Ordinances.

Road and Parking Lot Improvement Projects to Begin June 7

The Gaylord Street reconstruction project will begin on Monday, June 7 and continue through Saturday, July 31, 2021. Gaylord Street and sidewalks will be closed from Mission Street to Fancher Street. Gaylord Street will only be open to local traffic, no thru traffic permitted.

Kinney Street, Arnold Street and adjacent alleys will also be closed at Gaylord Street for the duration of the project.

The mill and resurface project for the Division of Public Safety’s parking lots is scheduled from June 7 – June 25, 2021. The public may park across High street in the southeast corner of the Ric’s Grocery store parking lot.
