Crapo Street Reconstruction Project to Begin August 1

The Crapo Street reconstruction project (between Broadway and High Street) is scheduled to begin on August 1 with an anticipated completion date of October 22, 2022. During this time, asphalt pavement, curbs and gutters, and water main will be removed and replaced. There will be partial sidewalk replacements completed and a section of new sidewalk installed. The street will be reconstructed at the same width and re-striped to shift parking to the west side of the street.   

Street Closure and Access

Crapo Street will be closed to thru traffic between Broadway and High Street for the duration of the project. Residents will have direct access off of Crapo Street except when work is being done on their driveways and during asphalt paving operations. The Contractor (McGuirk Sand & Gravel of Mt. Pleasant) will notify residents prior to the work beginning on their driveway. During this time, residents will be asked to park on the nearest side street.

Residents on Illinois and Heritage Court will have direct access from their homes off of Crapo Street, except when work is being done at the intersection of Illinois and Crapo.

Entrances to The Laurels, DaVita Dialysis, and the medical professional buildings on Crapo Street will remain open.

Trash Collection: Residents should write their address on all trash cans and recycling bins and place those containers out for collection no later than 7 a.m. on Thursday. The contractor is responsible for moving trash and recycle bins to pre-designated collection areas and returning the containers to property owners after collection. The contractor is not responsible for moving trash and recycling containers if items are not out for pick-up by 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Mail delivery will not be affected. 

Water Service:  Interruptions to water service is anticipated. The contractor will notifiy residents in advance via a door tag.

Road Closures for Paint the Pavement Event – June 4, 2022

Art Reach of Mid Michigan is hosting its annual “Paint the Pavement” event on Saturday, June 4, 2022. This year, members of the Mt. Pleasant community will start painting three intersections at 10 a.m. The intersections are: Broadway and Main; Broadway and University; Broadway and Franklin.

The following streets will be closed or have limited access from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. on June 4.

Broadway Street will be closed from Franklin Street to Main Street.

Limited Access:

  • Main Street from Michigan to Broadway.
  • University Street from Michigan to Broadway.
  • Court Street from Mosher to Broadway.
  • Franklin Street from Michigan to Mosher.

All cars parked on the streets noted above must be moved by 3 a.m. on June 4 to avoid being towed.

Mt. Pleasant Christmas Celebration – Downtown Road Closures and Parade Safety Information

In preparation for the Christmas Celebration, the following downtown streets will be closed at various times on December 3 and 4, 2021.

Friday, December 3, 2021

6 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Parking Lot #3 (Town Center): The front two rows on the east side of the lot will be closed. All cars must be removed by 6 a.m. to avoid towing.

3 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Parking Lot #3 (Town Center): The back two rows on the west side of the lot will be closed. All cars must be removed by 3 p.m. to avoid towing.

3 p.m. – 9 p.m.                                   6:00 p.m. Christmas Tree Lighting and Community Sing

Main Street will be closed from the Broadway and Main Street intersection, north to parking lot #2 (Jockey Alley).

11 p.m.                                               Island Park

In preparation for the Saturday firework display, Island Park will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, December 3 through Sunday, December 5 at 12 noon. Please make sure all vehicles are removed.

Saturday, December 4, 2021

Broadway Street will be closed from Court Street to Main Street.

12 p.m. – 8 p.m.                                6 p.m. Lighted Parade

Main Street between Illinois and Mosher will be closed.

Broadway Street between Main and Lansing will be closed.

4 p.m. – 8 p.m.                       6 p.m. Lighted Parade

Main Street from Cherry to Illinois will be closed.

Cars left on the street on Saturday, December 4 will be subject to towing. Please seek alternate routes during these time frames.

The lighted parade, which begins at 6 p.m. on December 4 starts at the First United Methodist Church, travels north on Main Street, east on Broadway Street, south on Lansing Street, and west on Illinois Street as it returns to the First United Methodist Church. To celebrate and honor frontline/essential workers, Jeniffer Faydenko assistant produce manager at GreenTree Grocery, will serve as the parade Grand Marshal.

PARADE SAFETY NOTE:  For the safety of parade-goers and parade participants; please do not venture out into the street during the parade. Stay on the sidewalk during the entire duration of the parade.

Road and Parking Lot Improvement Projects to Begin June 7

The Gaylord Street reconstruction project will begin on Monday, June 7 and continue through Saturday, July 31, 2021. Gaylord Street and sidewalks will be closed from Mission Street to Fancher Street. Gaylord Street will only be open to local traffic, no thru traffic permitted.

Kinney Street, Arnold Street and adjacent alleys will also be closed at Gaylord Street for the duration of the project.

The mill and resurface project for the Division of Public Safety’s parking lots is scheduled from June 7 – June 25, 2021. The public may park across High street in the southeast corner of the Ric’s Grocery store parking lot.

Broadway Street Construction – October 15 and 22, 2018

On October 15, the Street Department will complete the final improvements and water main repair work at the intersection of Broadway and Franklin Streets. This is the area which was affected by the August 13 water main break. Both lanes will be closed for the day at this intersection.

On October 22, both lanes at the intersection of Broadway and Franklin Streets will be closed for the day due to paving.

Broadway Street will close between Franklin and University Streets starting at 7 a.m. on October 15 and 22.  At this time water service is not expected to be interrupted.

Overlay Work on East Preston Street

Central Asphalt will be applying an asphalt overlay on the following streets, beginning at 7:00 am on Saturday, August 11, 2018.

East Preston Street:  Isabella Road to Lynwood Drive

Residents are encouraged to move their vehicles out of their driveways by 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. Parking is available on Sweeney, Crapo, Greenbriar and Batson Streets. Parking and traffic on Preston Street will be prohibited during the overlay process. Travel will be restored as soon as the equipment leaves the area.

Overlay Work on Watson and Ridge Street Area

Central Asphalt will be applying an asphalt overlay on the following streets, beginning at 7:00 am on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.

Watson: Preston to Ridge

Ridge: Crescent to Preston

Residents are encouraged to move their vehicles out of their driveways by 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Parking is available on the side streets.  Parking and traffic on Watson and Ridge will be prohibited during the overlay process.  Travel will be restored as soon as the equipment leaves the area.

Residents should place their refuse and recycling out for collection on Wednesday as normal.  The haulers have been notified.

Door hangers for the affected residents were distributed on Tuesday, August 7, 2018.

Documentary filming to close roads in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, July 7

A production company will be in Mt. pleasant on Saturday, July 7, to film portions of a documentary. As a result, the following roads will be closed for 30 minutes, from 7:30 to 8 a.m., for filming:

  • Preston from Washington to Franklin
  • Franklin from Preston to Bellows

Please seek alternate routes during this time frame.
