Road and Parking Lot Improvement Projects to Begin June 7

The Gaylord Street reconstruction project will begin on Monday, June 7 and continue through Saturday, July 31, 2021. Gaylord Street and sidewalks will be closed from Mission Street to Fancher Street. Gaylord Street will only be open to local traffic, no thru traffic permitted.

Kinney Street, Arnold Street and adjacent alleys will also be closed at Gaylord Street for the duration of the project.

The mill and resurface project for the Division of Public Safety’s parking lots is scheduled from June 7 – June 25, 2021. The public may park across High street in the southeast corner of the Ric’s Grocery store parking lot.

Downtown planter removal project begins June 22; Periodic parking space and street closures to occur

Beginning June 22, the City of Mt. Pleasant will remove the 42 round cement planters along the streets of downtown. Planters on Main Street will be removed first, followed by those on Broadway Street. Periodic parking space and street closures will occur throughout the project to accommodate the necessary equipment.

After the planters are removed, spaces will be filled with turf, concrete or brick pavers, depending on the location.

The project will conclude July 13.

Chippewa Street reconstruction begins June 4

Reconstruction of Chippewa Street between Mission and Brown streets will begin Monday, June 4, and continue through Friday, July 13. The road will be closed to through traffic, but businesses will remain open and accessible.
