Temporary Closure Planned for Broadway Street

UPDATE (July 23): The planned Broadway Street closure and concrete pour scheduled for July 24 have been postponed. The work is now expected to occur early next week. Updated information will be shared once the new date is confirmed.

As improvements at City Hall continue to move forward, the planned closure of Broadway Street between Washington and Oak streets has been postponed. The closure was originally scheduled to allow crews to safely pour concrete for the retaining wall on the east side of the building, but that work has been rescheduled and is now expected to take place early next week.

Updated information regarding the closure date, detour route, and any traffic impacts will be shared as soon as the schedule is confirmed.

The City Hall entrance will remain open and accessible during normal business hours. Motorists, pedestrians, and visitors are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the area and to remain alert for construction workers, equipment, and changing traffic patterns.

We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as these improvements continue. Following posted signage and allowing extra travel time near City Hall will help keep everyone safe during ongoing construction activities.

Structure Fire on Clover Lane Displaces Residents

At approximately 3:08 p.m. today, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 5414 Clover Lane in the Crossings Mobile Home Park on East Broadway Road in Union Township.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the residence. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression operations and brought the fire under control by approximately 4:10 p.m.

The structure sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage. The occupants were home at the time of the incident and were able to evacuate safely. No civilian injuries were reported; however, the residents have been displaced as a result of the damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police Department, Mobile Medical Response, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

No residents or firefighters were injured during the incident.

Most home fires occur at night when people are sleeping. Check your smoke detectors monthly and replace your batteries twice a year. Operating smoke detectors may save your life.

Scheduled Road Closures on Broadway and Mosher Streets (May 26 – June 26)

UPDATE 6/11/2026

Paving on Broadway Street and Mosher Street is scheduled for Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16, weather permitting.

Pavement markings are planned for Thursday, June 18. Both roads will remain closed to thru traffic and access will be limited during paving.

Closures remain in place:

Broadway St from Lansing St east to the City limits
Mosher St from Fancher St to Mission St

Road improvement work is scheduled on Broadway Street and Mosher Street from May 26 through June 26, 2026.

Beginning May 26, the following road closures will be in place:

Broadway St from Lansing St east to the City limits
Mosher St from Fancher St to Mission St

Please follow posted detours using High Street and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.
