Topics to Watch at the 7/28/2025 Mt. Pleasant City Commission Meeting

Here are the topics to watch at the next in person, as well as virtual Mt. Pleasant City Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, July 28, 2025, at 7 p.m.

  • Presentation on 2024 Comprehensive Annual Financial Audit.
  • Presentation by GRS Consulting Actuary Casey Ahlbrandt-Rains on Police and Fire Pension related to the 2024 Annual Actuarial Valuation Report.
  • Presentation by Municipal Employees’ Retirement System of Michigan (MERS) pension by representative Tony Radjenovich of MERS related to the 2024 Annual Actuarial Valuation Report.
  • Presentation by Watkins Ross’s Christian Veenstra related to the 2024 Annual Actuarial Valuation for the City’s and the Police’s Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) funds.
  • Public hearing to consider the proposed changes to and adoption of Chapter 72 of the City’s Code of Ordinances titled, “Bicycles and Electric Bicycles” regarding the usage of motorized bikes and scooters on City owned trails.
  • Consider budget amendment for Sustainability Coordinator Position.

The City Commission Meeting will be held in person in the City Chambers/City Hall (320 W. Broadway Street) with virtual attendance options as well. Non-voting participants may view the meeting live on the City’s YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/user/MtPleasantMi/, on Spectrum Charter channel 188 or via Zoom.

If a virtual option becomes unavailable due to technical difficulties, the meeting will continue as scheduled. Residents who would like to provide a comment during the appropriate time are welcome to come to the meeting at City Hall or email their statement to comment@mt-pleasant.org.

City of Mt. Pleasant Launches PACE Program

Recently, the City of Mt. Pleasant was designated a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) district. PACE is an economic development tool that provides financing to implement energy efficiency, water efficiency and renewable energy projects in commercial, industrial, multi-family, nonprofit and faith-based buildings. Property owners benefit from long term, 100% up front capital to invest in money-saving technologies through a voluntary special assessment. 

Mt. Pleasant is the 57th local government in the state to join Lean & Green Michigan’s PACE district. Local businesses now have access to a statewide market of lenders and contractors who can help make clean energy projects a reality – all with no tax payer money. To date, $256 million of private funds have been invested in Michigan projects.

Brian Kench, Mt. Pleasant Building Official shared, “The PACE program provides an opportunity for efficient and energy renewable projects to become a reality in our community. Property owners will now benefit from up front capital, making sustainable energy development projects economically viable.”

  • Presentation by Building Official Brian Kench on sustainability efforts/plans.
  • Public hearing on the establishment of an Industrial Development District for DL Wilson Properties located at 1219 N. Mission Street and consider resolution on the same.
  • Receive and ordinance to add a Chapter 116 to Title XI: Business Regulations of the City’s Code entitled, “Electric Scooters/Skateboards” and set a public hearing for October 10, 2022 on the same.
  • Consider recommendation from the Appointments Committee for the City Commission vacancy.
