8) Appointment of Mayor Perschbacher as the voting delegate and Vice Mayor Alsager as the alternate for the MML Board of Directors Annual Conference.
9) Contract with Willy’s Contracting of Saginaw, MI to raze and restore 402 N. Arnold St. and 1306 Upton St.
10) Warrants and payrolls.
Approved the purchase of two (2) BMW police motorcycles and reallocated police officer position vacancy savings from the 2024 budget to cover same.
Reallocated funds earmarked for replacement of the Police Department interview room which was included in the 2024 budget to be used to purchase a new Detective vehicle.
Approved the purchase of Pontem Cemetery Management software and a budget amendment for same.
Approved appointments to applicable City boards and commissions as recommended by the Appointments Committee.
Held a work session discussion on Managed Natural Landscaping.
The community can enjoy $1.99 coney dogs while helping the youth of Isabella County during Coneys for a Cause. This event is scheduled for August 12-16, 2024, at the Pixie Restaurant (302 N. Mission Street).
The Pixie will donate to the Mt. Pleasant Police Youth Services Unit (YSU) 100% of the profits for every coney sold.
Customers can purchase individual coney dogs for $1.99 at the restaurant, or they can pre-order a minimum of one dozen coney dogs to be delivered. All delivery orders must be submitted before 3 p.m. on August 6 and emailed to GMstore100@inspiredcpts.com. Delivery times are between 10 a.m. and noon, August 12 – 16. Event organizers will do their best to meet the desired delivery time.
The “Pixie Pig Out” is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Pixie. Stop by to watch this friendly coney-eating competition between law enforcement agencies.
Youth Services Unit (Mt. Pleasant Police Department)
This valuable program involves police positively interacting with youth at an early age. Two YSU Officers serve more than 3,000 K-12 students in the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools (MPPS), providing guidance and support for students, ultimately forming lifelong bonds. The popular Youth Police Academy, as well as Shop with a Cop, are just a few of the programs YSU hosts.
On April 24, 2024, at 8:18 a.m. officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) Youth Services Unit (YSU) were contacted by a Mt. Pleasant Public Schools Administrator. This administrator informed officers that an Oasis High School student may have a gun in their possession.
The YSU officer immediately made contact with the 17-year-old male suspect without incident. A gun was located in the suspect’s backpack, and he was placed into custody.
The suspect is cooperating with police who are currently investigating. Once completed, the results of the investigation will be sent to the Prosecutor’s office.
This was an isolated incident and there is no potential risk to students or the public.

The City Commission Meeting will be held in person in the City Chambers/City Hall (320 W. Broadway Street) with virtual attendance options as well. The Mt. Pleasant Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Paul Vance Ellingson a 57-year-old white male suspect (shown below) in an attempted homicide which took place on Friday, February 16, 2024, around 5 p.m. in the 1500 block of Granger Street.
This was a physical altercation between two male roommates There is no known threat to the public.
Ellingson was last seen driving a stolen 2020 maroonMitsubishi Mirage with Michigan license plate, 4MDA81.

2/20/24 Update: The Mt. Pleasant Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Paul Vance Ellingson a 57-year-old white male suspect. Ellingson was last seen driving a stolen 2020 maroon Mitsubishi Mirage with Michigan license plate, 4MDA81.
At approximately 5:03 p.m. on February 16, 2024, officers of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to a reported stabbing at the 1500 block of Granger Street.
Upon arrival officers observed a male victim with multiple stab wounds. Police interviewed witnesses who described a physical altercation between two male roommates. The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s car. The victim was transported to a local hospital.
The suspect is still at large, but there is no known threat to the public. This is an isolated incident between two roommates.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by Central Michigan University Police, Isabella County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, MMR, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.
On January 11, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m. officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) responded to a call involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the 2100 block of South Mission Street.
Upon arrival to the scene, MPPD officers found a male and his leashed dog had been struck by a car travelling southbound on Mission Street.
Witnesses reported that the male and his dog were attempting to cross Mission Street, in a non-crosswalk area. Witnesses shared the man initially slipped and fell, and then continued to cross the street.
The pedestrian, a 39-year-old male from Mt. Pleasant, and his dog were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, an 18-year-old male from Mt. Pleasant and his 16-year-old passenger, also from Mt. Pleasant, were not injured.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, Central Michigan University Police, Isabella County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Isabella County Victims Response Services, Isabella County Animal Control, Mobile Medical Response, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.
The Youth Services Police Academy is scheduled for July 10 – 27, 2023, (Monday – Thursday) from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. This free program offers youth, going into grades 6-8 who have an interest in law enforcement, an up-close view of the skills and necessary training needed for law enforcement officials.
Mt. Pleasant Police Officers conduct the program in the manner of a real police academy with values such as teamwork, integrity, compassion and discipline being stressed. Cadets are required to participate in physical training and complete the same agility tests given to recruits during a standard police academy.
In addition to physical training, the daily curriculum includes: hands-on learning, field trips and demonstrations by specialized units such as the SWAT Team, K-9 and DNR. Classroom topics encompass crime scene investigations, traffic stops, marine patrol activities, defensive driving techniques, firearms safety, first aid and CPR, and much more.
Applications are now available at Mt. Pleasant Public Schools and the Division of Public Safety, 804 E. High Street, during 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The application deadline is June 2, 2023.
