Apartment Building Fire – No Injuries

On October 5, 2024, at 4:16 p.m., the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a fire at a multi-family housing unit in the 1800 block of South Crawford Road.

Upon arrival, crews observed a two-story, 16-unit apartment building partially engulfed in flames extending from the entry door to the roof of the second floor. The fire spread quickly up the walls and into the attic. The building sustained heavy fire damage to the attic and water damage throughout most of the building.

All occupants were able to exit the building safely. Tenants from the 16 units are displaced and working with apartment complex managers to find temporary housing.

Fire personnel remained on scene to try and salvage as many occupant belongings as possible.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The MPFD was assisted by the Deerfield Township Fire Department, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department, Isabella Northeast Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response, Mt. Pleasant Police Department, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

Barn Fire in Union Township

On April 23, 2024, at 6:28 p.m. the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 4300 block of South Isabella Road in Union Township.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from a free-standing barn.

The structure was a complete loss. No injuries were sustained.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Isabella County Sheriff Department, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

Fire Destroys Structure in Union Township

On March 29, 2024 at 11:12 a.m. the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD)

responded to a structure fire in the 400 block of South Isabella Road in Union Township.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from a large unattached garage.

The structure was a complete loss. No injuries were sustained.

The MPFD is investigating the cause of the fire.       

The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Isabella Northeast Fire Department, Deerfield Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

Attic Fire Damages Union Township Home

On March 18, 2024 at 12:48 p.m. the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a house fire in the 800 block of S. Mission Road in Union Township.

Upon arrival, crews observed a single-story home with smoke coming from both ends of the roof. The fire was brought under control by 1:19 p.m. The house sustained smoke, heat, and fire damage to the attic. The occupants were home at the time of the fire and were able to exit the home safely.

The MPFD is investigating the cause of the fire.

Mt. Pleasant Home Sustains Fire Damage

On December 27, 2023, at 5:44 p.m., the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a house fire in the 1100 block of E. Michigan Street.

Upon arrival, crews observed a single-story residence with fire exiting one window and heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the structure. The house sustained light smoke damage with heavy fire, smoke, and heat damage to the room where the fire originated.

The resident was not at home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The MPFD was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response, Mt. Pleasant Police Department, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

West Mt. Pleasant Home Suffers Fire Damage

On December 8, 2023, at 5:24 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a house fire in the 900 block of W. Michigan Street.

Upon arrival, crews observed a single-story residence with fire and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home. The house sustained heavy fire, smoke, and heat damage.

The resident was at home at the time of the fire and was able to exit the structure safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the MPFD.

The MPFD was assisted by the Saginaw Tribal Fire Department, Mt. Pleasant Police Department, American Red Cross, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

MPFD Responds to Trailer Fire

On November 23, 2023 at 7:59 p.m., the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) was dispatched to a structure fire in the 5000 block of Kay Street.

Upon arrival to the scene, fire crews observed heavy smoke coming from a double wide trailer. Upon entry, firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

The trailer sustained moderate to heavy smoke and fire damage.

 The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were sustained.

The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Isabella County Sheriff’s Department, Mobile Medical Response and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

Mt. Pleasant Fire Department Responds to Appian Way Apartment Fire

On November 21, 2023 at 12:55 a.m., the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) was dispatched to an apartment fire on Appian Way.

Upon arrival to the scene, fire crews observed a multi-unit apartment building with smoke coming from a second story window. Upon entry, firefighters extinguished a fire in the apartment’s bathroom/laundry room.

The apartment sustained moderate to heavy smoke damage and heavy fire damage to the bathroom/laundry room. Occupants were home at the time of the incident, but exited safely with no injuries sustained.

 The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
