3) Set a special meeting for Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. with the Mt. Pleasant Public School Board and the Charter Township of Union Board of Trustees to discuss the Recreation Authority Study Committee’s final report.

4) Warrants and Payrolls.

Approved providing input to CMU that the current draft of the amended Restrictive Covenants is supported and in addition, the City Commission would recommend further consideration of two items.

Moved to send out for competitive bids on environmental consulting services for former landfill site.

Conducted a work session on 2019 Goal Report Discussion on Downtown Study.

Public Invited to Virtual 2050 Master Plan Events

The City of Mt. Pleasant will hold a series of virtual events regarding the proposed 2050 Master Plan.

Beginning Monday, August 17th through Monday, August 31st, an interactive web platform will be available at www.mtpleasant2050.com enabling the public to review and provide feedback on elements of the proposed plan.

On Thursday, August 20th, the City and project consultant McKenna Associates, will host a virtual open house at 7 p.m. This event will offer the public an opportunity to learn more about the plan, provide feedback, and ask questions.

Hundreds of community members participated in formal and informal activities during a four-day event in April 2019, hosted by the City and McKenna Associates. Participants shared their vision for Mt. Pleasant in the year 2050. In addition, hundreds of additional stakeholders participated in online surveys to further refine and validate the vision. This feedback became the basis for the proposed Master Plan. 

The plan is organized around specific goals and objectives including Sustainable Land Use, Connected Mobility Systems, Focused Redevelopment, Exceptional Parks and Public Spaces, and Innovative Services and Aspirations.

A series of public hearings before the Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, and City Commission will take place in the near future with formal adoption of the plan to occur before the end of 2020.

2) Authorize the Mayor to sign the electric facilities easement for Parking Lot #12 as presented.

 3) Resolution approving submittal of the grant application to the Michigan Arts Council for the 2021 Paint the Intersection project.

4) Warrants and Payrolls.

Held a Public Hearing and passed, ordained and ordered published Ordinance 1056, an Ordinance to amend portions of Title V, Chapter 50: “Solid Wastes” of the Mt. Pleasant Code of Ordinances to provide pickup options for non-single-family residential buildings in the City.

Contract amendment for the remaining sites in Eastpointe IV as recommended by the Property Committee.

Conducted a work session discuss on Charter Committee recommendations.

Election Day Access to Precinct 3 – Pullen Elementary School

Election Day is Tuesday, August 4, 2020 and for those individuals not voting absentee, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Voters of Precinct 3, which is located at Pullen Elementary School, will still have access to their polling location despite the construction taking place on Brown Street.

Voters driving to the polling location have two parking options:

  1. Voters can drive across Brown Street from Michigan Street and park in the north parking lot of the school.
  2. Voters may also park on Illinois Court, located off of Crapo Street, and walk the trail to the east side of Pullen School.

UPDATE: Suspect in Bradley Street Trailer Park Homicide Arraigned

At 2:53 a.m. on July 15, the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a report of a homicide at 505 S. Bradley Street.

Upon arrival to the scene officers found one deceased male who was identified as 33-year old Chad Kuzma. Officers also located a 25-year-old, Mt. Pleasant man at the scene who sustained injuries from a gunshot wound. This individual was treated for his injuries and released.

Through witness statements and further investigative leads, a shooting suspect was identified as 29-year-old Charles Reid from Saginaw County. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Isabella County Jail.

Charles Reid was arraigned in the Isabella County Court on July 22, 2020 and charged with:

•Homicide – Open Murder

•Assault with intent to Murder

•Possession of Firearm by Felon

•3 counts of Felony Firearm

Reid is currently lodged in the Isabella County Jail on a $1,600,000 cash bond.

4) Received a proposed ordinance to amend portions of Chapter 50: Solid Waste and set a public hearing for Monday, July 27, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

5) Authorized the Mayor to sign the required certificates for the EDA Grant for Industrial Park South Detention Pond.
