4) Decertification Resolution for Mosher Street from Broadway Street to Main Street.
5) Revised Permanent Easement for Consumers Energy Facilities at 1303 N. Franklin St.

Mt. Pleasant Police Officer Josh Theisen invites the community to the 2025 Polar Plunge. For the third year, Director of Public Safety Paul Lauria is taking the chilly plunge to benefit Special Olympics of Michigan athletes.
The annual Polar Plunge is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the O’Kelly’s/Wayside parking lot, 2000 S. Mission Street. Diver registration is at 11 a.m., with diving at 12 noon.
At the January 27, 2025, Mt. Pleasant City Commission meeting, Maureen Eke was elected Vice Mayor by the commission. This was due to Mayor Bryan Chapman’s resignation. Boomer Wingard, who was Vice Mayor, is now serving as Mayor.
As a result of former Mayor Chapman’s resignation, the City Commission has one vacancy to fill. Due to election parameters and timelines, an individual will be appointed to fill this seat. This appointment term will run from the appointment date until Election Day on August 5, 2025.
Applications for the appointed position are being accepted now through February 12, 2025, before 4:30 p.m. The Appointments Committee will consider applications and make a recommendation to the full City Commission at the February 24, 2025, meeting. This appointed term would expire on August 5, 2025, when the election for the vacancy will take place. Application information is available at the City Manager’s Office (320 W. Broadway Street) as well as www.mt-pleasant.org/boardapplication.
Nominating petitions to run for this open seat, which term runs from August 5, 2025 – December 31, 2026 are available at City Hall, office of the City Clerk, 320 W. Broadway Street, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Completed nominating petitions which require a minimum of 50, and a maximum of 80 certified signatures, may be filed with the City Clerk starting Monday, March 24, 2025. The deadline to file is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The city election will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

The City of Mt. Pleasant plants a variety of trees in the city’s right-of-way as part of the Urban Forestry Plan. Residential property owners within the city limits, are eligible for one free tree per year, to be planted in the right-of-way in front of their property. The Street Department will determine the best location for the tree. Once planted, the property owner is asked to water the tree as directed, especially during the hot summer months, or extended periods without rainfall.
To view the tree brochure as well as complete a tree application, visit www.mt-pleasant.org/streets. Applications are due by March 14, 2025.
Residents who wish to plant their own tree in the right-of-way must obtain a permit from DPW. There is no charge for the permit, but there are a few tree species that are prohibited by city ordinance. For more information, please contact the Division of Public Works office at 989-779-5401.
On January 22, 2025, at 5:16 p.m. the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Wellington Drive in Union Township’s Summerhill Village Mobile Home Park.
Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from a mobile home. The fire was caused by attempting to heat frozen pipes and is a total loss.
The owner was home at the time of the fire, but did not sustain any injuries.
The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Deerfield Fire Department, Shepherd Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.
On January 14, 2025, at 4:22 p.m. the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Stoneridge Court in Union Township’s Summerhill Mobile Home Park.
Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from a double wide mobile home. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. The mobile home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.
There were no occupants home at the time of the fire, which was reported by a neighbor.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

The Island Park Ice Rink is now open to skaters. Located on the south softball field this 54’ x 95’ rink is open daily, weather permitting. There is no charge to use this facility, which is maintained by the City of Mt. Pleasant Parks Department.
As you are gathering up your skates, please review the outdoor ice rink rules before you hit the ice.
Island Park Outdoor Ice Rink Rules
Hours of Operation:
The Island Park Ice Rink is open daily, weather permitting.
The City of Mount Pleasant reserves the right to close the Ice Rink at any time in its sole discretion by posting a sign on the rink which states, “Rink Closed – No Skating.” Skaters shall not enter the Ice Rink area when the sign is posted.
Code of Conduct:
All Ice Rink participants, including skaters and bystanders, will be required to follow the general rules of conduct established in the City’s Parks and Recreation Ordinance (Section 97.01 – 97.21 of the City Code of Ordinances) while at the Ice Rink.
Further, all Ice Rink participants will be required to adhere to the following Ice Rink specific rules and regulations:
Skaters shall be courteous and cautious of other skaters and bystanders while using the skating area. Skaters shall not push, shove, or otherwise engage in raucous behavior while using the skating area.
Skaters shall not dig, spray, chip, throw, or otherwise expel ice or snow within the skating area.
The following shall be prohibited in the skating area:
Food and beverage items;
Tobacco products;
Hockey equipment, including hockey sticks, pucks, and nets;
Street shoes; and
Animals.
Skaters under the age of 5 shall be under adult supervision while in the skating area. The Ice Rink does not have designated supervisors. Skaters shall skate at their own risk.
Failure to abide by the rules and regulations of the Ice Rink could result in enforcement actions against you.
Lost Items and Reporting Misconduct:
The City of Mt. Pleasant is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
