Mt. Pleasant, Mich., – On August 20, 2018 at 3:46 p.m., the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) received a call of credit card fraud at 1805 S. Mission Street (Silverberg Finer Jewelers) in Mt. Pleasant.
MPPD Officers made contact with a Silverberg Finer Jewelers employee who stated two males entered the store and purchased a necklace for $450.00. The store employee told Officers he received a telephone call 15 minutes later from a subject in Iowa stating his credit card had been fraudulently used at the store for the $450.00 purchase. The Silverberg Finer Jewelers employee immediately notified local pawn shops to be on the lookout for the subjects, and the recently purchased necklace.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Central Dispatch received a telephone call from New Millennium Pawn Shop (5281 E. Pickard Road) indicating the two possible suspects had been in their store attempting to make purchases with a credit card. The employee of New Millennium Pawn Shop was able to give a description and direction of travel of the possible suspect’s vehicle.
MPPD Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and performed a traffic stop on Mission Street near High Street. As a result of this stop, a 19-year-old male from Flint was arrested for both Possession and Use of a Fraudulent Credit Card. Officers conducted an investigation which quickly resulted in the recovery of the necklace and fraudulent credit card. Surveillance video and witness statements indicated that only one of the subjects used the fraudulent credit card.
The 19-year-old male suspect is currently lodged at the Isabella County Jail awaiting arraignment.
