Mt. Pleasant Police Investigate Shooting – No Risk to the Public

On May 25, 2021 at approximately 10:25 p.m. officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department were called to a shooting incident on the city’s west side.

Upon arrival, officers found a 67-year-old male who was pronounced dead at the scene. The 67-year-old male had attempted suicide and was then assisted by his 36-year-old son.

This is an open and ongoing homicide investigation. The names of both males will not be released at this time. This is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by Central Dispatch, Central Michigan University Police Department, Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Crime Lab, and Mobile Medical Response.

Double Stabbing Case Update

UPDATED 11/17/2020:

On November 16, 2020 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department were called to a stabbing at a South Oak Street apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers located two victims: a 22-year-old male, and a 21-year-old female. Immediately following the incident, the male victim was listed in stable condition. The female victim, identified as Nangonhs Massey, has died as a result of her injuries.

The suspect, 20-year-old Kaden Gilbert, has been arraigned in Federal Court on 1st Degree Murder, Assault with a dangerous weapon, and Assault causing serious bodily injury.

Double Stabbing Suspect in Custody – No risk to the public (Posted 11/16/2020)

On November 16, 2020 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) were called to a stabbing at a South Oak Street apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers located two victims: a 22-year-old male, and a 21-year-old female. Both victims were transported to separate out-of- area hospitals. Currently, the male victim is in stable condition and the female victim is in critical condition.

MPPD officers quickly located the suspect who is now lodged in the Isabella County Jail. This was an isolated and targeted incident and there is no risk to the public.
