Riverside Cemetery spring cleanup begins April 1

Spring cleanup will begin April 1 at Riverside Cemetery. All holiday decorations, decorative flowers and light-weight items on grave sites must be removed by April 15 or they will be discarded.

Spring plantings may be placed beginning May 1. Riverside Cemetery is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Great Egg Scramble is March 24

Hop your way to Finch Fieldhouse (Campus of Central Michigan University – between Bellows and Preston streets) and join Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation, 95.3 WCFX and Graff of Mt. Pleasant for the Great Egg Scramble on Saturday, March 24. The celebration begins at 12:30 p.m. and admission is free. Canned goods will be collected for the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen.

Youth ages 2-10 will scramble for plastic eggs, candy and prizes. The event will also include crafts, games, refreshments and the opportunity to meet Peter Cottontail!

Scramble times are scheduled by age group: Ages 2-3 at 1 p.m., ages 4-5 at 2 p.m., ages 6-7 at 2:30 p.m., and ages 8-10 at 3 p.m.

The Great Egg Scramble is made possible by Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation, 95.3 WCFX, Graff of Mt. Pleasant, Soaring Eagle Waterpark and Hotel, Isabella Bank, Morey Courts, DuHadaway Dance Dimensions, Cornerstone Church and Celebration Cinema.

Family-friendly event “Under the Big Top” is Jan. 20

Local families are invited to Finch Fieldhouse on Jan. 20 for “Under the Big Top,” a free circus-themed event presented by Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation, the Chippewa River District Library, MY1043 and AM 830 WMMI. From 12 to 1:30 p.m., enjoy exciting performances, midway activities, games and refreshments. Special guests include Ringmaster Big Top Joel Tacey who will display amazing juggling acts on stilts, as well as the Central Michigan University Cheer team!

Free goodie-bags will be provided to first 400 families.

34th annual Daddy-Daughter Date Night planned for Jan. 21; Register today

Young ladies and their fathers are invited to the 34th annual Daddy-Daughter Date Night on Jan. 21 at the Mt. Pleasant Comfort Inn & Suites.

Presented by Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation, the special evening of music, dancing, prizes and activities is open to girls of all ages and their dads or other favorite escort. Attendants can choose from the two event times offered – 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.

Due to limited space, advanced registration is encouraged and available through Jan. 17. The cost is $30 per family for city residents, $42 per family for non-residents or $45 per family at the door. USA Softball of Michigan Girls’ State Championship Tournament slides into Mt. Pleasant

Softball Tournament 2016The City of Mt. Pleasant’s Parks & Recreation Department will host the 2017 USA Softball of Michigan Girls’ Fastpitch State Tournament June 29 – July 2. A total of 108 Class A teams comprised of age groups 12U through 18U will compete for the state title, and the winning team from each age group will continue on to the prestigious USA National Fastpitch Tournament. Games will be held at Island Park, Pickens Park, Mt. Pleasant High School, Central Michigan University and McDonald Park. Admission is free.

“The City has been fortunate to host the USA Softball of Michigan State Tournament for the past seven years, and we look forward to this weekend every year,” said Tournament Director Steve Hofer. “Some of the best athletes across to the state will be here to provide excellent competition for the community to watch. We expect this event will bring more than 3,000 people to Mt. Pleasant, and we are excited to provide a great experience for them on and off the field.”

The tournament will likely generate several hundred bookings for local hotels, and increased business for restaurants and attractions. Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation staff is committed to providing unbeatable service to the teams and spectators.
