Detective Sergeant Dave Sabuda of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) was recently awarded the 2019 Dan Denslow Advocate of the Year Award by the Isabella County Child Advocacy Center for his commitment to the agency and child advocacy. The award, named after the late Isabella County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Dan Denslow who was a strong supporter for child advocacy, is presented to individuals, businesses or entities who deal with sexual assault issues.

A 26-year veteran of the MPPD, Sabuda has served as a Patrol Officer, Youth Service Unit Officer, Detective and Detective Sergeant. Known for his stellar work as a defensive tactics and firearms instructor for the MPPD, Sabuda shares his talents by training multiple police agencies and police cadets at the Delta College Police Academy. Sabuda possesses vast knowledge in use of force practices and tactics, and is called upon by multiple agencies for his expert advice. His leadership qualities are evident through his role as co-leader of the Isabella County Emergency Services Team. Throughout his career Sabuda has taken a special interest in fighting crimes committed against children. This motivated him to become a child forensic interviewer and fostered his commitment to the Isabella County Child Advocacy Center.

Founded in 1980, the Isabella County Child Advocacy Center works in conjunction with law enforcement and aids in the investigation of childhood sexual and physical abuse. Accredited by the National Children’s Alliance, the Center provides a child friendly facility where children can come to tell their story to a trained professional.
