UPDATE (2/24/2020): Suspect in Wayside Central Stabbing Arraigned

Around midnight on February 22, 2020, officers of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) responded to a fight involving a knife at the Wayside Central Bar (2000 S. Mission Street). Upon arrival, MPPD officers identified three injured victims which were transported to local hospitals.  

After numerous witnesses were interviewed, and video footage was reviewed, the suspect was quickly identified as 19 year-old Octayvious Jerome Sanchez-Lewis. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Isabella County Jail. This was an isolated incident and there was no risk to the public.

Sanchez-Lewis was arraigned in the Isabella County Court on February 24, 2020 and charged with:

-(3) Counts of Assault with Intent to Murder

-(2) Counts of Dangerous Weapon, Carrying with Unlawful Intent

The suspect is currently lodged in the Isabella County jail on a $850,000 cash bond.

Two of the three victims who suffered injuries have been treated and released from local hospitals. The third victim is still hospitalized and is in stable condition.

At this time a clear motive has not been established and at least one of the victims knew the suspect.
