One Injured in Structure Fire

On June 12, 2025, at 9:20 a.m. the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a fire at 1011 North Mission Street (the former Michigan State Police Post) in Mt. Pleasant.

Upon arrival, crews found a fire in one of the four upstairs apartments, as well as a butane tank that exploded. The fire was extinguished and did not spread to the other apartments. The other three apartments, as well as the business housed on the first floor, suffered water and smoke damage.

The male occupant of the apartment that caught on fire, exited the unit, and went next door to the Walgreen’s pharmacy to seek treatment for burns. This individual has been transported to a local hospital and will be transferred to Hurley Medical Center.

This is an ongoing investigation.

The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was assisted by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response, Mt. Pleasant Police Department, and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

Truck and Motorcycle Accident Leads to Fatality

On May 28, 2025, at 2:17 p.m. officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to a truck and motorcycle accident at the intersection of Sweeney and Broomfield Street. A Chevrolet 3500 truck traveling north on Sweeney Street failed to yield to oncoming traffic while crossing Broomfield Street. A motorcycle traveling west on Broomfield collided with the truck.

The driver of the truck, a 45-year-old male from Vestaburg, did not seek medical attention for a minor injury.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old male from Mt. Pleasant was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

This accident remains under investigation.

Head on Collision Results in Double Fatality

On December 17, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m. officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) responded to a call involving a head-on collision on Broomfield Street east of Mission Street.

Upon arrival, MPPD officers determined there was one vehicle with a 51-year-old male driver and a 75-year-old male passenger, both from Mt. Pleasant. A 43-year-old male from Elwell was in the other vehicle.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the one vehicle was transported to a local hospital.

This accident remains under investigation. Names are not being released due to notification of family.
