Mt. Pleasant Police Officer Mike Williams Promoted to Lieutenant

Officer Mike Williams has been promoted to Lieutenant of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department (MPPD), and will assume his new duties immediately.

Mike possesses 23 years of law enforcement experience, 14 of those years with the MPPD. During his MPPD tenure, Mike has served as a Youth Services Officer, Field Training Officer, Fire Investigation Officer, Evidence Room Manager and supervised Crossing Guards and Park Rangers. Mike was also President of the Police Officers Association of Michigan for the MPPD. Other previous law enforcement assignments include service as Corrections Sergeant and Undersheriff for Mecosta County.

Assistant Police Chief Brandon Bliss shared, “Mike’s strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, solid-decision making abilities, and his natural capacity to serve, greatly benefits our department. We are excited to welcome Mike to the police administration team.”

MPPD Seeks Assistance in Locating Family of Two Young Children (UPDATED: 11/5/2022 at 7 p.m.)

UPDATED: 11/5/2022 at 7 p.m. – The family of the two children have been located. There is no additional information at this time. Updates will be provided when available.

On November 5, 2022 at 12:45 a.m. Mt. Pleasant Police Officers responded to a call in which two small children were discovered unaccompanied within the city limits. The children are a 15 to 18-month-old male, and a 4 to 6-month-old female.

The children are currently under Child Protective Services guardianship.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the children and their parent(s) or guardian(s). Currently, only a photo of the 15 to 18-month-old male child is available.

Downtown Mt. Pleasant Christmas Celebration Scheduled for December 2 and 3

Downtown Mt. Pleasant will be filled with holiday spirit at the December 2-3 Christmas Celebration. A community tradition for almost three decades, this event offers a variety of activities for the whole family.

The celebration kicks off Friday, December 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. on Broadway Street between Main and Franklin. The Winter Market will once again feature specialty crafts and food vendors and Candy Cane Lane will host a variety of children’s games, activities, and live performances. Hayrides and visits with Santa and Santa’s reindeer round out the night’s festivities.

Saturday, December 3 highlights include the Jingle All-The-Way Kids Fun Run, and the adult 5K and 5 Mile Run, all starting at Max & Emily’s. Registration must be completed online. Races begin at 7:50, 8:25 and 8:30 a.m., with proceeds benefitting Toys for Tots.

A pancake breakfast with Santa is scheduled from 9 a.m. – noon at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Admission is $10 adults, children 10 and under $5. Children under four are free. Proceeds benefit the SHA Athletic Association. Tickets can be purchased at the Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation office located inside City Hall at 320 West Broadway.

The celebration continues at 6 p.m. on Saturday with the lighted parade starting at Main and Illinois Street and continuing down Main and Broadway.  B’s Music Shop will serve as parade Grand Marshal.

Mt. Pleasant Fire Department Responds to Two House Fires

On November 1 at 10:05 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a structure fire at 1006 Bruce Street.

Upon arrival, crews observed two residential structures on fire. The fire was brought under control at 1:30 a.m. Both homes sustained heavy smoke, heat and fire damage. No injuries were sustained in this incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.   

The MPFD was assisted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, Shepherd Tri Township Fire Department, Deerfield Township Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response and Isabella County Central Dispatch.
