Empty Canvas concert scheduled for September 9

Music lovers.  Meet here.  Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a free performance by Empty Canvas scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, September 9 at the Island Park Arts Pavilion. The event, sponsored by the Mt. Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, is part of the Island Park Arts Pavilion Concert Series.

Empty Canvas is a unique combination of music and art. Artist Mike McMath, accompanied by his twin brother Scott on guitar, sings while painting a complete image. Empty Canvas performs a wide variety of music from Frank Sinatra to Jason Mraz; Led Zeppelin to Kings of Leon.

The Island Park Arts Pavilion project, in the works for four years, was recently completed and is the end result of Mt. Pleasant High School 2019 graduate, Taylor Idema’s Girl Scout Gold Award Project.  For the past few years Idema has been working with Chris Bundy, Mt. Pleasant Parks and Public Spaces Director to make this performing arts pavilion a reality.

More than $200,000 was raised through grants from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe 2% Distribution, and generous donations from the Morey Foundation, W.E. Martin Fund of the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation, Isabella Bank, Rotary Club of Mt. Pleasant, Isabella Community Credit Union, Doug and Melissa LaBelle Family Foundation, Mercantile Bank of Michigan, City of Mt. Pleasant Parks Partnership Fund, United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties, Mt. Pleasant Jaycees, Mt. Pleasant Agency, Inc. – Central Insurance.

Mt. Pleasant Police Department seeking assistance in identifying suspect

Mt. Pleasant, Mich., – Mt. Pleasant Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect who was at the Shell Station, 799 South Mission Street at approximately 10:00 a.m. on July 13, 2019.

A female reported she was groped by a suspect described as a white younger male, 5’6” tall, with facial hair, and a thin build. The suspect was wearing blue jeans, a gray cut-off shirt and work boots.

This incident was reported to the Mt. Pleasant Police at approximately 2:45 p.m. on July 13, 2019.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department is asking anyone with information about this incident, or the identity of the subject, to call the Anonymous Tip Line at 989-779-9111.
